The Challenge
Operating within a live motorway services site meant strict controls were essential. Underground services, fuel infrastructure, and heavy vehicle traffic presented significant risks. The project required a safe method to install large-diameter wells capable of recovering free-phase hydrocarbons, all while minimising disruption to ongoing site operations.
The Solution
Initial delineation works established the extent of contamination.
A 300mm concrete core was cut, followed by vacuum excavation to 1.2m, ensuring clearance of buried services.
Using Subadra’s own drilling rigs and skilled operators, we installed a large-diameter well to 6m depth, designed for long-term product recovery.
Our innovative use of a 90-degree cathead optimised drilling efficiency and safety within the restricted canopy space of the forecourt.
The Outcome
The project delivered a fully operational free-phase recovery system, enabling long-term remediation and risk reduction at the site. Our proactive approach not only safeguarded critical infrastructure but also ensured compliance with environmental regulations, allowing the client to operate with confidence.
