The Challenge
The proposed development site lies in an area where seasonal fluctuations in groundwater levels could significantly impact the performance of sustainable drainage features. With stringent planning requirements in place, the project team needed robust, long-term groundwater data to ensure the SuDS design would remain effective year-round.
The Solution
- Subadra installed a network of groundwater monitoring points across the site, designed to capture spatial and seasonal variations. Our team carried out monthly monitoring over a twelve-month period, recording groundwater depths and identifying trends linked to rainfall and seasonal changes. The data was collected in line with local Lead Local Flood Authority (LLFA) guidance to ensure it could directly inform SuDS design and approval.
The Outcome
The groundwater data enabled the drainage consultants to optimise the design of infiltration systems and other SuDS components, ensuring they would remain functional during peak groundwater conditions. Our investigation helped satisfy planning conditions relating to surface water management and contributed to a compliant, resilient site design ready for commercial development.
